9/17/2019 - BTPD Arrests Man for Possession of Homemade Explosive Devices

BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ – On Sunday, September 15, 2019, the Burlington Township Police Department arrested a 60 year old Burlington Township resident for possession of homemade explosive devices.

The arrest was the result of police responding to a single family residence in the unit block of Walnut Drive at approximately 4:40 PM on September 15th for a disturbance.  Upon arrival, officers determined that Robert Stackhouse ignited a homemade explosive device during the disturbance and made threats to other occupants within the residence.

Due to the hazard presented to the surrounding neighborhood, officers evacuated several residents and instructed several others to shelter in place while police attempted to make contact with Stackhouse inside the residence.  After approximately one hour, Stackhouse exited the residence and surrendered to police without further incident.

Members of the New Jersey State Police TEAMS Unit and Arson/Bomb Unit responded and rendered the scene safe, and a subsequent search of the residence resulted in the discovery of two additional homemade explosive devices fashioned from PVC pipe.

Stackhouse was charged with possession of destructive devices, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, aggravated assault with  deadly weapon, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.  He was remanded to the Burlington County Jail pending his initial appearance in court.

In addition to the New Jersey State Police, the Burlington Township Police Department was assisted by the Burlington Township Fire Department, the Endeavor Emergency Squad, the Burlington City Police Department, the Edgewater Park Police Department, and the Willingboro Township Police Department.
